Describes physical activity or exercise that requires a very high amount of effort or exertion.

For example, running up a steep incline as fast as you can is an activity that might require a very high amount of effort. Conversation is not possible at this level of intensity.

ACSM quantifies very hard intensity exercise as working at 94% or more of your maximum heart rate.
