Surgeon general definition

The head of the United States public health service, serving as America’s leading health educator.

The surgeon general is appointed by the president for a four year term and responsible for promoting health and safety during that time.

His or her responsibilities include sharing health information with the American public, making policies and initiating interventions around such topics as quitting smoking and fighting obesity.

The surgeon general recommends that adults get at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise, most days of the week.
