How to stay motivated during your workout

How to stay motivated during your workout

Here are 6 ways to stay motivated:

1. Focus on the benefits

Remind yourself why you’re exercising in the first place, and why sticking with your workout will be worth it in the long run.

2. Find an exercise partner

Exercise with somebody who will encourage you to stick with your workout:

  • Friend
  • Family member
  • Co-worker
  • Personal trainer

3. Set a goal for your workout

A sample goal might be to:

  • Exercise 5 minutes longer than last time.
  • Walk 0.5 miles further than last time.

4. Reward yourself

Reward yourself for achieving your exercise goal.

Choose rewards that are compatible with your goals. Rewarding yourself with food or a day off from the gym is not compatible with a goal of losing weight.

5. Download a distraction

  • Download new music or a podcast to listen to during your workout.
  • Download your favorite show to watch during your workout.

6. Find an activity you enjoy

Try new activities, exercise videos, sports, and group exercise classes to find what you
enjoy the most.

The more you enjoy something, the more likely you are to do it. If you hate running, you will probably never be motivated to run for very long.
