How long should I rest between sets?

Rest 1-2 minutes between sets of the same strength training exercise.

In general, rest 1–2 minutes between:

  • sets of the same exercise.
  • exercises using the same muscle group.

For an efficient workout, perform an exercise for a different muscle group during this time.

While resting your chest muscles after a chest exercise, perform a back exercise. This will allow the muscles you just worked to rest, while also making the best use of your time.
