There are two ways to find whole grain bread:

1. Look for 100% whole wheat.

Choose a loaf of bread that says 100% whole wheat on the front of the package.

Ignore all other claims on the package because they can be misleading.

2. Read the ingredient list.

Choose a product with the first ingredient listed as a whole grain:

  • whole wheat flour
  • whole rye flour
  • whole oat flour
  • brown rice flour

These ingredients do not mean whole grain:

  • wheat flour (bleached, unbleached, or enriched)
  • stoned wheat
  • cracked wheat
